What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occuring mineral that has been used by man for over 4,000 years. Wide spread use of asbestos began during the Industrial Revolution. It has been found to cause serious lung diseases and cancer many years after the exposure occured. The increased risk for asbestos-related diseases occurs when the asbestos containing materials are removed in a way that creates dust which is inhaled. The fibers are so small, respirators with special filters should be used to prevent inhalation of the dust.
